 Welcome to the Cape Breton Site of the Dalhousie University Family Medicine Residency Program.
Residents who come to the Cape Breton Site to do their training find the experience to be enjoyable and rewarding. Here they will nurture and develop their skills in our friendly collegial atmosphere, where family physicians and specialists work side-by-side. At the same time our residents get to experience the unique outdoor and cultural activities that this beautiful island has to offer.
I hope that the information found in this web site will answer your questions concerning our training site as well as questions about Cape Breton Island.
 This site is particularly suited to those residents who plan to work in communities where family physicians still look after their own ‘in-patients’ and/or do shifts in the local ER. In addition to extra time spent in the ER, our residents usually have an opportunity to develop their procedural skills.
Generally our residents enjoy their two years of training here in Cape Breton. Some have found the overall experience to be so positive that they have continued to live and practice here in Cape Breton following their residency. (Twelve of 37 residents who completed their residency here in Cape Breton between 1999 and 2005 are presently practicing here in Cape Breton).
